Keynote Speakers Announced For Future Proofing The Curriculum

We are thrilled to reveal the three distinguished keynote speakers who will headline Future Proofing The Curriculum 2025. Each brings a unique perspective on the future of mathematics education, and we are confident their presentations will inspire and challenge delegates in equal measure.

Catherine Boulton

Catherine Boulton serves as Senior Policy Adviser at the Royal Society, where she leads policy work on mathematical education in collaboration with RS ACME. Her career has spanned educational publishing and teacher professional development at a literacy charity.

Catherine's plenary, 'Mathematical Futures – The Curriculum and Beyond', will draw on the Royal Society's extensive research into what mathematical competencies young people will need in an increasingly data-rich world. In September 2024, the Royal Society published a significant report setting out a new vision for mathematics and data education, and Catherine will share the thinking behind these recommendations.

Charlie Stripp MBE

As President of The Mathematical Association and Chief Executive of Mathematics in Education and Industry (MEI), Charlie Stripp is one of the most influential voices in UK mathematics education. His organisation plays a pivotal role in curriculum development and teacher professional development nationwide.

Charlie's plenary, 'Future Proofing Maths Education', will explore how we can ensure mathematics teaching remains relevant and effective in a rapidly changing educational landscape. MEI's involvement in programmes such as the Advanced Mathematics Support Programme (AMSP) and the National Centre for Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics (NCETM) gives Charlie unique insight into the challenges and opportunities facing mathematics educators.

Rob Eastaway

Author and presenter Rob Eastaway has spent decades making mathematics accessible and enjoyable for audiences of all ages. His books include 'Maths On The Back Of An Envelope' and 'Much Ado About Numbers', and he is the Director of Maths Inspiration, a programme of theatre-based mathematics lectures for secondary students.

Rob's plenary, 'You Too Can Be A Maths Genius', promises to be both entertaining and practically useful. He will demonstrate mental arithmetic techniques that can build mathematical confidence and serve as a gateway to deeper mathematical understanding. Rob is a regular contributor to BBC Radio 4's programme More Or Less, bringing mathematical thinking to a wide public audience. You can learn more about his work at BBC Radio 4 More Or Less.
